If you know that you need health insurance but don’t know how to start or what to look for, we’ve got good news – you’re in the right place.

Do You Really Need Health Insurance?

Before we talk about the solutions that our health insurance broker in Nexton provides, we should address the elephant in the room. Everyone regardless of age or health, can benefit from a health insurance plan. Even the healthiest of people want to maintain their health and have protection in the event of a catastrophe. One of the best ways to stay healthy and plan for unexpected events is to visit your doctor for an annual check-up. When you have a health insurance plan, these visits are often fully covered by your insurance carrier when you choose an in-network doctor. Without health insurance, you will be responsible for the full cost of any medical care – even routine check-ups with your primary care physician. If something horrible happens, and you don’t have health insurance, you may have to pay the full amount for the emergency care you receive. Even young, healthy individuals can benefit from the right health plan. After all, nobody plans on getting sick or injured, but bad things can happen to anyone. Something unexpected like a broken leg can cost more than $7,000 to treat when you don’t have coverage. A three-day stay in a hospital can cost upwards of $30,000. That can be an incredible amount of money to pay out of pocket. Having a health insurance plan set in place can help you get quality care at a much more affordable price, especially if something unforeseen happens.

Self-Employed

Entrepreneurs have their own set of needs in terms of health plans and how much they can afford to spend on coverage. Once thought of as a small percentage of the workforce, 57 million Americans freelanced in 2019 alone, according to the Upwork and Freelancers Union. If you are a consultant, independent contractor, or freelancer, the Health Insurance Solutions Team will find a plan that caters to your current needs and future endeavors. Common health insurance plans for self-employed people include vision, life, dental, and stand-alone prescription coverage. Our experienced health insurance agents will work directly with your employees to help them find the coverage they can afford. We also offer hybrid plans that can be customized so that both you and your employee’s needs are met. Travelers

If you travel regularly for business or pleasure, it pays to plan ahead and protect yourself. Because unexpected events happen all the time, you could lose a lot of money if your business trip or vacation is canceled at the last minute. Situations like this can be particularly concerning on international business trips and on long vacations. Whether you get sick before your trip or have valuables within your baggage stolen, traveler’s insurance can help minimize expensive cancelation fees and costs.

Most Popular Types of Coverage

Figuring out the kind of insurance you need is a crucial part of the health insurance process. Do you have a prescription for eyeglasses or contacts? Do you have a condition that requires you to visit the doctor on a regular basis? Health insurance plans change depending on what you need. At the Health Insurance Solutions Team, we will provide you with a trusted health insurance agent in Nexton to help you choose the best plan for your budget.

Here are a few of the most popular types of coverage that our clients ask about:

Major Medical

This type of insurance covers minimum essential benefits and meets the standards of the ACA for family and individual coverage. Major medical insurance is a fantastic option to choose if you want to be sure all of your medical expenses are covered. Major medical plans usually cover ten essential benefits:

  • Outpatient Procedures or Ambulatory Care
  • Hospitalization
  • Check-Ups and Preventative Care
  • Prescription Medications
  • Emergency Services
  • Pediatric Care Services
  • Laboratory Services
  • Newborn and Maternity Care
  • Addiction Counseling and Mental Health Care Services

If your goal is to cover a full range of care, major medical plans are often the best choice. We recommend you contact our office today to learn more about the major medical plan options available to you. As a licensed, private health insurance broker in Nexton you do not need to wait until Open Enrollment to protect yourself with a major medical insurance plan.

MAJOR MEDICAL
DENTAL

DENTAL

From basic cleanings to complex procedures like root canals, dental work can be awfully expensive. When you have dental insurance, you will have peace of mind knowing that you won’t have to pay for your procedure out of pocket. In general, a quality dental insurance policy will cover some or all of the following:

  • Routine cleanings and checkups (copay may be required)
  • X-Rays
  • Filling Cavities
  • Bridges, Implants, and Crowns
  • Root Canals and Repair Work
  • Emergency Services Oral Surgery, etc.)

It should be noted that some types of dental equipment and services may be covered at higher levels of coverage. While preventative work like cleanings is typically covered, some procedures require out-of-pocket costs.

VISION

Usually purchased as an addition to your medical insurance, vision insurance helps cut back on costs associated with eye care Like dental insurance, vision insurance is great if you know that you will regularly visit the eye doctor or just want to protect yourself for a “worst case scenario.” In general, a quality vision plan will cover some or all of the following:

  • Routine Eye Exams
  • Medical Eye Care
  • Vision Correction Products (Eyeglasses, contacts, etc.)
  • Surgeries for Vision Correction (LASIK, etc.)

It should be noted that not all types of vision insurance will cover medical issues related to eye care. For instance, if your optometrist discovers a medical problem during your eye exam, they may refer you to a different doctor. While vision insurance may not cover all eye-related medical services, major medical health insurance often does.

VISION
LONG-TERM CARE

LONG-TERM CARE

It might be hard to imagine at this stage of your life, but as you age, there is a chance that you will need long-term care services. The question is, how will you or your loved ones pay for this kind of care? Many people choose to eliminate the burden of senior care by purchasing long-term care insurance. Services like meal preparation, medication assistance, and help with day-to-day activities like bathing are not covered by regular health insurance plans. Long-term care insurance will help you or your children lessen the expense of care when you have chronic medical conditions, dementia, or disabilities. When you speak to one of our health insurance agents, ask if you can purchase a policy that reimburses you when you receive care in the following locations:

  • Routine cleanings and checkups (copay may be required)
  • In a nursing home
  • In your own home
  • In an assisted living center
  • At a long-term residential senior facility

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Nexton community in Summerville continues to see new growth right off of I-26 and Highway 17A.

Nexton Vice President of Operations Brent Gibadlo says the community can expect to see new restaurants, parks, employments opportunities, offices, and a variety of homes coming in the next few years.

“Nexton is already in a really great location, right off of I-26, so it’s very accessible. I think the other thing is a lot of employment here,” Gibadlo said. “So, this isn’t really just about homes, it’s a lot about businesses. So, it’s this idea of integrating where people work and where people live and getting those things more inter-connected.”

The Midtown area of Nexton opened about six months ago and currently has about 100 homes on site, but within the next 10 to 15 years, Gibadlo says they plan to have around 3,000 homes there.

“I think that’s the biggest thing that we’re trying to do at Midtown Nexton is offer housing options across the board,” Gibadlo. “So whether you’re a young person looking to buy your first home or you’re an empty nester looking to downsize, and everything in between.”

Gibadlo says the Midtown space will have apartments, townhomes, and individual houses. They also just broke ground on the Midtown Club which will have a resort pool, lap pools, exercise facilities, and other amenities.

Downtown Nexton is expected to break ground later this year. It will be separate from the existing Nexton Square with restaurants, stores, and offices. It will be about 100 acres along Sigma Drive. Gibadlo says it will have hotels and apartments in a more urban and city-like area of the community.

He says he’s excited for Nexton to also become a health and wellness hub for the area. That includes new offices already and the anticipation of a MUSC Community Hospital expected to open in 2022.

Gibadlo also says they realize the growth of this area may not seem beneficial for everyone.

“You know, it’s very fair for folks to have concerns about growth. What we always think about is we want to make sure that there’s far more positives than negatives associated with growth,” Gibadlo said. “So I think first it starts with a good, thoughtful master plan. And that’s one thing that we’re lucky in the case of Nexton. This is a plan that’s been in the works now for over 10 years.”

He adds that Nexton has a master plan for the road networks and stormwater plans that come with the rapid growth here.

The first phase of North Creek Marketplace, a retail center located on the northern end of Nexton and just outside of Cane Bay Plantation, is open for business.

The development at the intersection of North Creek Drive and U.S. Highway 176 includes a variety of dining options and medical and service providers, such as the recently opened Buffalo Wild Wings and Marco’s Pizza.

Other shops that are scheduled to be open in the coming months are Agaves Cantina, Scoop Ice Cream, Jersey Mike’s, Dunkin’, Heartland Dental, McDonald’s, Dixie Cleaners and Princess Nails.

“It makes eating out and getting takeout so much easier for us now,” Nexton resident Sadie Timmins said. “You don’t have to drive so far away to get something good to eat. The more options we have for shopping and dining nearby, the better traffic will be in the end.”

North Creek Marketplace also features Blue Water Market, which opens next week and will offer freshly prepared breakfast biscuits, hand-battered fried chicken sandwiches, Cinnabon items and fresh-made grab-and-go salads and sandwiches. The convenience store will also offer Shell gasoline and soft-cloth car washes.

“We are excited to be opening phase one of North Creek Marketplace,” said Eddie Buck, president of Charleston-based Jupiter Holdings and developer of North Creek Marketplace. “The project includes a healthy mix of tenants that specifically cater to the needs of residents of Nexton and the surrounding communities.”

In addition to the openings in phase one, Extra Space Storage is currently under construction, along with Auto Zone, Time To Shine Car Wash and Ace Hardware, all of which are in the design and permitting phase.

“Nexton is focused on delivering commercial amenities to residents, from dry cleaners and markets to medical providers and casual dining options,” said Cassie Cataline, marketing director of Nexton. “Our goal is to concentrate Nexton’s offerings and bring services to our community.”

Getting in and out of the new retail center should be easier in the future as well.

In August, Berkeley County held a groundbreaking ceremony for the $53 million widening project on Highway 176. The first 4.2-mile section will involve widening the road to four lanes from two with a raised concrete median from Highway 17A to Nexton Parkway.

What’s next for Nexton?

The master-planned community in Summerville broke ground on SOLIS Nexton, a 320-unit multifamily development.

Charlotte-based Terwilliger Pappas is developing the 11-acre project, which is expected to be completed in late 2022.

SOLIS Nexton plans include for-rent residences that are available in one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans. The development will consist of nine three- and four-story buildings. Garages also will be available for lease. The new community is located within walking distance to Nexton Square.

“We are excited to add Terwilliger Pappas to Nexton’s expanding list of talented partners who provide high-quality residential offerings that cater to a variety of lifestyles and preferences,” said Nexton’s Vice President of Operations Brent Gibadlo. “From young professionals to families and empty nesters, SOLIS Nexton will blend the best of Nexton living through its thoughtful planning and innovative design.”

Amenities for the new community include a resort-style pool, dog park, peg spa, entertainment lounge, electric car charging stations, a fitness center and private yoga/spin studio. Plans also carved out space for a community pocket park.

“We are thrilled to be located in the heart of Nexton,” said Tom Barker, regional CEO for Terwilliger Pappas. “This is exactly the type of location we’ve been searching for – a walkable location with access to restaurants and other amenities desired by our future residents.”

Additional project partners include Summit Contracting, Group 4 Architecture, which will focus on architect and interiors; and Cline Design Associates and Seamon Whiteside, which will handle civil and landscape architecture.

Terwilliger Pappas was founded in 2013 and develops multifamily apartment communities in Southeast submarkets. The company has regional offices in Raleigh and Atlanta.

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - The Nexton community in Summerville is planning to grow in 2021.

The master-planned community has already brought new homes, restaurants, hotels, and businesses to the I-26 corridor.

Nexton’s Vice President of Operations, Brent Gibadlo, says they are creating a community environment where individuals can thrive.

“By making a genuine effort to understand the market and recognizing Nexton’s unique opportunity to positively impact our customers, we have created an ergonomic community plan that applies thoughtful architecture, innovative design and social responsibility in order to optimize human well-being,” Gibadlo said.

Work is expected to begin on more than 500 new homes in Nexton within the next year. Developers hope that some of these homes will be completed by the Summer of 2022.

Developers say the first 250 homes in the Midtown development phase of Nexton are expected to be delivered in 2021.

The Lou Hammond Group says the Birmingham, Alabama-based Capstone Communities recently announced the introduction of 282 single-family, for-rent homes at Nexton. These rental homes are scheduled to be delivered in late 2021 and be completed in the Summer of 2022.

Another 100 lots by TrueHomes are planned for the North Creek neighborhood this year as well.

In February, the Lou Hammond Group says they plan to see the groundbreaking of the Midtown Club. It’s a swim and fitness center that will serve the Nexton Residential Association.

A full-service First Citizens Bank branch is expected to open at Nexton in late 2021. Construction recently began in January on the new bank.

Developers are also planning to break ground on “Downtown Nexton” this year. The downtown area of Nexton will be separate from the existing Nexton Square, where events like the Sounds on the Square have taken place. However, Downtown Nexton is expected to be located within walking distance of Nexton Sqaure.

Downtown Nexton is planned to be 100-acres and come between Brighton Park Boulevard and Sigma Drive.

More specifics will be shared soon on the downtown area, but initial plans show it will have a new gas station and offer multifamily community opportunities.
