CURBSIDE VOTING: Each voting location will offer curbside voting for voters ages 65 and older and/or with a disability.
Please note, display of campaign material is not allowed at the polls on Election Day or during early voting, according to state law. ABSENTEE VOTING: The deadline to turn in an application has passed. Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the Berkeley County Voter Registration & Elections Office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day (November 5). Residents looking to take advantage of shorter wait times for early voting were a little disappointed when they showed up at the four different locations across Berkeley County. The wait was roughly two hours, sometimes more, but those in line at the Hanahan Library remained in pretty good spirits.
The long line stretching out the door of the Hanahan Library strung down a long walkway and curved onto the sidewalk along Murray Drive. The first day of early voting had arrived on Monday, Oct. 21, with no cloud in the sky.
Some popped open umbrellas for shade; one person was seen shading her head with her handbag as poll workers walked down the line and handed out bottled water. Some worked crossword puzzles to kill time, while others carried small stools to get off their feet.
“It went fine,” Tina Agree said after voting. “It’s super simple once you get in there, very simple.”
Agree added there were additional visitors during her wait.
“There were some people out there praising, saying all the things they believe in,” she said. “I thought it was not appropriate. I think they made them leave.”
That was the most drama on that day for those standing in line, which is what people like Goose Creek resident Sarah Pierce will remember.

“I was here this morning at 11, and I had a noon appointment,” she said, adding her wait was around two hours. “I was in line and realized I’m never going to make it. So, I had to leave and come back. It was in the sun. I had to get the umbrella out of my car. Plus, my feet don’t like standing on the concrete. It’s just too bad they can’t get it out of the sun.”
Some social media posts also mentioned the long wait and the lack of shade at the Moncks Corner site.
Early voting runs until Nov. 2 across the state. Berkeley County’s sites are the Hanahan Library on Old Murray Court, the Daniel Island Library on Daniel Island Drive, the election headquarters in Moncks Corner and the Redeemer R.E. Church in Pineville.
Early voting centers are open from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. during the early voting period. When voters arrive at the polling site, they will be asked to show photo identification.
Berkeley County announced on Oct. 23 that due to record-breaking early voter turnout, overflow parking is being made available at the old KJ’s parking lot at Bilo Drive in Moncks Corner.
According to the county's announcement, Tri-County Link will provide shuttle service from the overflow lot to the Berkeley County Administration Building at 1003 N. Highway 52. Traffic will continue to be rerouted at the administration building to accommodate the increase in visitors. During the first two days of the early voting period, 8,067 votes were cast throughout Berkeley County.
The South Carolina Election Commission also reports statewide record turnout for early voting. Voters are urged to prepare for longer wait times across all early voting locations and to consider bringing water, an umbrella and comfortable shoes.
